Agriculture, local economy and the environment are some of the top concerns revealed by Anglian Water’s consultation for the proposed Fenland reservoir.
The initial consultation period for the proposed Fenland reservoir, north of Chatteris near Doddington and Wimblington, is over and the people have had their say.
The consultation has shown residents are concerned about the potential effects on place and communities, roads and transport, agriculture, local economy and the natural environment.
Anglian Water has said they, alongside Cambridge Water, received hundreds of pieces of feedback ahead of the consultation’s closure on December 21.
This marks the end of one of three consultation phases on the reservoir for people to voice their views and insight on the reservoir.
The proposed reservoir could supply enough water for 250,000 homes, ensure sufficient water supply in response to a changing climate and population growth.
It would also protect and restore the environment as it would see less water taken from rivers and underground aquifers.
Anglian Water reported that positive interest was shown in what the reservoir could bring such as recreation, wildlife and exploration areas.
Dr Geoff Darch, water resources strategy manager for Anglian Water, said: “We’ve received really valuable feedback from local people and stakeholders and want to thank everyone for taking part in the consultation.
“Although it’s too early to know exactly how we’ll respond to all the feedback, your comments are a key part of developing the reservoir.
“We know it’s very important for us to consider the effects of our plans on those impacted by our proposal including homeowners, landowners and nearby communities.
Natalie Akroyd, head of water strategy and environment for Cambridge Water, said:
“We’re really keen to see the feedback from the consultation. We need to know how our plans will impact homeowners, landowners and the local communities, so this feedback is a vital part of the planning process."
