A group of volunteers described as “unsung heroes” that have helped clean up their village’s streets have been thanked after marking their 10-year anniversary.
The Benwick Street Pride/In Bloom group were presented with a new litter picking trolley by Fenland District Council to recognise the milestone.
Presenting the trolley, Councillor Peter Murphy said: “The difference they make to their local environment is immeasurable.
“From holding regular clean-up events, to bringing numerous planting and community projects to fruition like the Jubilee oak tree seat as part of Her late Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.”
Cllr Murphy added that the volunteers in Benwick are “unsung heroes of the community”.
The trolley will be used to transport the group’s litter picking equipment, heavy bags of collected rubbish and plants for planting in the village.
Jill Hindle, chairman of Benwick Street Pride in Bloom, said the group began with the aim of “cleaning, tidying and planting up the village, and working with and for the community.
“We’re immensely proud to have reached our 10-year anniversary and of everything we have achieved together in those years.”
And more volunteers to the Benwick group are welcome.
Jill added: “Not only will you help to make Benwick an even better and more interesting place to live, but it’s a great opportunity to have fun, make new friends, keep active and enjoy the outdoors.”
