A discount retailer has confirmed it will close its March store.
QD Stores [Quality Discounts] is due to shut its store on Broad Street, which employs eight full and part-time staff, in two months’ time.
Karl Ottolangui, QD group operations director, said it has “become no longer viable for us to keep the March store open.
“Sales have continued to dwindle due to a significant decrease in footfall in the town centre and, therefore, we have had to take the very difficult decision to close the store.”
The store, due to close at the end of May, was renamed by QD last year after it took over the Thingmebobs chain in 2013.
The news comes after QD’s furniture store on March High Street was shut down last summer due to falling sales.
All staff members at the March shop have been offered roles at other QD branches.
Mr Ottolangui said the decision to close the store was not easy and thanked customers.
He said: “The store on Broad Street has been part of the retail landscape in March for many years and we have built up a very loyal customer base.

“We’d like to say thank you to all of them for choosing to shop with us in the town.”
The closure does not affect the QD store in Wisbech Market Place, which will remain open.
A spokesperson for QD Stores said there are no plans to close any further shops.
