Cambridgeshire Constabulary has joined a national campaign to crack down on drink and drug drivers across the region.
Extra patrols and regular roadside checks will be in place by officers as part of their summer campaign called #OperationLimit.
Since the beginning of last year (2022), across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, 4,175 drink and drug drive arrests have been made.
For those who are not aware, the legal alcohol limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for driving is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood or 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
It's an offence to drive with any of 17 controlled drugs above a specified level in your blood. This includes illegal and legally prescribed drugs.
One of the serious collision investigators, Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler, has seen first-hand the devastation drink and drug driving causes.
He said: “We unfortunately see cases where people selfishly drink or take drugs and drive, putting their own lives and others at risk,".
The force is urging people to be sensible, at the same time encouraging the public to report drink and drug drivers via their 24/7 hotline: 0800 032 0845.
