A vacant Wilko unit in Huntingdon town centre is set to be replaced with a new B&M store, which could open before Easter.
The Wilko store in Huntingdon closed its doors at the start of October 2023, following the announcement of the collapse of the much-loved business.
However, the vacant unit will soon be opening as a B&M. The news, confirmed by Huntingdon First, comes as many old Wilko stores prepare to rebrand into new retailers.
A spokesperson for Huntingdon First said: "The Churchmanor Estates Company (owners) have worked incredibly hard to attract new business into their units on St Germain Walk, and we are all delighted to welcome B&M to Huntingdon town centre!"
The spokesperson also confirmed that work will begin on transforming the unit into a B&M from January 16, 2024. There is a potential opening date of late March.
Paul Sweeney, Huntingdon First Town Centre Manager, said: "It's a brilliant outcome for what was an incredibly sad time last year to see the Wilko's store close and the staff lose their jobs.
"Bringing B&M onto the High Street in Huntingdon will be a huge boost to our town centre. Following an amazing result for footfall in December which saw over 618,000 people visit the town in the five-week period, a rise of 15% year on year.
"We are excited to see what this new retailer can add to our thriving town."
Emma Proctor King, of Churchmanor Estates, added: "Churchmanor are delighted to be welcoming B&M to their existing tenant line up at St Germain Walk.
"We believe that they will be a great addition to Huntingdon town centre and add to the diverse mix of shops that the town has to offer."
