Cambridgeshire County Council is set to discuss safety measures for Puddock Road in Warboys, which has seen four fatal crashes from the years 2016 to 2020.
In 2023, Cambridgeshire County Council's Highways and Transport Committee agreed on a budget of £700,000 for a scheme to improve the safety on the road.
A range of options were considered, including widening the road.
At the Highways and Transport Committee next week (Tuesday, March 5), members will discuss the preferred option of safety measures, which is to reduce the speed limit and restrict access to those who live and work there.
If this new safety measure is approved, it means that consultations will begin on Puddock Road to trial a 40mph speed limit as well as a camera enforced closure of the road that will restrict access.
Puddock Road could become a 40mph buffer zone depending on the outcome of the consultations, and access could be restricted.
The road has claimed the lives of four people in the space of four years.
Madeleine Parnwell sadly died in 2017 when her car crashed on Puddock Road.
Marion Bunyan, her daughter Jennifer, and Jennifer's unborn child, Erin Chatten, also died on the road in 2020.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council said that "the national speed limit is no longer appropriate (on Puddock Road) and a lower speed limit is needed to improve road safety."
Chair of the Highways and Transport Committee at Cambridgeshire County Council, Cllr Alex Beckett, said: “We’d like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of those who have died on this road.
"There are many complexities at Puddock Road from a highways point of view, we want to make the road safer given the history and we are looking at the most suitable option.
"In the past, we have looked at closing the road and various traffic management options."
