A care home in the Fens has been getting into the sporty spirit by hosting their own Olympics.

Having been cheering on Team GB throughout the Paris Olympics, staff and residents at Hickathrift House in Marshland St James took to their marks in the Hickathrift Olympics, all dressed in their sports attire.

Volleyball, tennis, bowls, seated football and arm chair rugby were all part of the day’s challenges.

The teams battled it out to be crowned sporting champions in each category by general manager Paula Colman and activities coordinator Emily Jackson.

After a jam-packed morning of Olympic fun, the afternoon Olympic award ceremony rolled in and the winners were crowned gold, silver and bronze.

This included resident, Norah, nearly 103, who won the rugby champion award.

Paula Colman, general manager at the home, said: “We have loved watching the Olympics, lots of our residents are sports fans.

“It has been fantastic to be able to cheer on all of Team GB and watch our talented sportsmen and women bringing home medals in so many diverse sports, that it was only right we hosted our very own.

“It really was a day of fun, everyone got involved and dressed up for the occasion. It was a real pleasure to cheer on Team Hickathrift”
