The site of a rural house fire could have a new four-bed home built on it if a planning application is approved.

Plans have been submitted to East Cambridgeshire District Council for the property to be built at Bells Drove, between Welney and Littleport.

A planning statement with the application says: “... the application seeks permission for one planning unit to replace the existing dwelling that was significantly damaged by a fire and had to be subsequently demolished due to a health and safety risk.

“The replacement dwelling will be two storeys in height, replacing the existing two-storey dwelling.

“The form and design of the proposal is of a simple traditional architectural design that complements and reflect the rural character of the site and neighbouring properties.

“The proposed dwelling will incorporate high-quality materials and will be built to modern standards.”

There will also be a bike store and two parking spaces with an electric vehicle charging point.

The application was received on July 11, 2024. The applicant is Ian Sterling.

Littleport Town Council has recommended the application for approval.
