A Fenland town could see up to six new homes, according to new plans.

A planning application submitted to Fenland District Council in August requests outline permission for the houses on land south of 22 South Park Steet in Chatteris.

It also proposed the demolition of an existing building in addition to a new access route and 12 parking spaces.

The application follows the recent granting of planning permission for  dwellings on South Park Street and London Road in 2019 and 2022 respectively.

A design and access statement published on behalf of the applicant said the application had received a "positive" pre-application response from the district council.

It added: "In accordance with Fenland’s District Plan, developments of this nature within the town should be welcome, as the town is identified within the Local Plan as a Market Town, one of four settlements where the majority of development is to be located over the plan period.

"The site is predominantly surrounded by existing residential properties, so residential dwellings would be compatible with the surrounding uses and would not result in any significant noise or light pollution to the neighbouring residential properties, once constructed, and therefore is in compliance with policy LP16 of the Local Plan."

The statement added what while the application site is located next to the "conservation area" and near to listed buildings, the development wouldn't have a "significant impact".

A preliminary agricultural impact assessment said that while "three trees" would be removed as part of the development, construction would have "negligible impact."
