A barn in a Fenland village could become a day centre for individuals with learning disabilities under new plans.

A planning application submitted to Fenland District Council seeks approval to convert the site on Addison Road in Wimblington, March.

The plans said the proposed learning centre, which had previously been used as a farm yard for heavy vehicles, would foster a "supportive environment" for individuals to interact with support from "experienced workers".

A design and access statement published as part of the application said the site would include parking spaces for 10 permanent members of staff.

Members of the public would not visit the site and 12 individuals transported via minibus would be supported at the unit.

It added: "The unit would also be refurbished in accordance with building regulations which would increase sound and thermal insulation at the building.

"The site is located within the built up [sic] of Wimblington, brings into use a former barn, is located within flood zone 1, has existing utilities and existing access.

"The building is not to be extended. Parking is shown on site, utilising the existing access."

Family-run business, Sabanu Care, would operate the proposed learning centre, according to plans.

The domiciliary care and support living service offers home and community support to a diverse range of clients, including children, young people and adults.

The company currently operates a care unit on Newark Road, in Peterborough.
