Residents of a Fenland village could see a new housing development built on their doorstep according to plans.

An application submitted to Fenland District Council seeks outline planning permission for seven new homes on Westfield Road in Manea.

If approved, the proposed development would utilise an existing "man-made" lake to be used as a water feature and "assist with drainage".

A design of access statement said: "The development is a mixture of bungalows, chalets and two-storey buildings.

"There is no distinct development in terms of frontage or back land development as there is all types of developments surrounding the site.

"The proposal although indicative would be a mixture of two storey, single story and one and a half storey dwellings, all for residential usage."

Each property would include "sufficient parking" with a mixture of single and double garages.

Access to the site is via Westfield Road and plans would create a new 6-metre wide access allowing footpaths to be turned into the site.

Manea Parish Council objected to the proposed development, citing concerns around the disposal of surface of water.

However, a number of locals expressed support for the plans, which they described as meeting Manea's housing shortage.

One resident said the new homes would help Fenland District Council meet its "new homes target" and described Manea as a "growth village".

Another local said: "The site is one of the few remaining infill sites left in the village and its location, with easy access to the village amenities makes it idea for development."
