A new, family-run swimming pool has been proposed for March under new plans.

A planning application submitted to Fenland District Council seeks approval to convert an existing industrial unit to a swimming pool in Century Way.

If approved, the unit would be occupied by Fenland Swim Academy - a family-centered swimming and activity centre offering private swimming lessons for swimmers of all ages.

A design and access statement published as part of the application said: "To ensure high quality teaching and safety levels are maintained, each group swimming class will be limited to 4 swimmers per class, with a maximum of 2 classes per session.

"The purpose-built facility would be focused on being family friendly with pool, changing areas and a small viewing area.

"The pool is aimed to be ran at a higher temperature than council pools allowing more swimmers to access swimming, especially those with additional needs, whose need for warmer water due to health conditions will allow them to do this."

The site would be equipped for private hire sessions for families to allow swimmers to experience an "exclusive pool" and "further develop confidence around water."

The proposed pool would have a maximum capacity of eight swimmers at any one time and offer families across Fenland "expert teaching programmes" within a "fun environment".

The plans added: "Fenland Swim Academy’s strategy is to utilise the existing unit on Century Way to create full time and part time employees at this location.

"Although the Unit could well in in use throughout the day, the main aim is to provide evening classes outside of school and standard working hours.

"These times would assist with any parking issues, as most of the other Units are occupied by industrial businesses who would be closed at main swimming times."
