A public consultation is underway with proposals to reduce speed limits and add speed cameras along sections of the A47 between Peterborough and King’s Lynn.

National Highways says there was a total of 118 reported injury collisions recorded on the route over a five-year period, of which 234 involved casualties.

Its analysis of specific sections of the A47 has shown the number of people hurt of seriously injured is above the expected number in comparison to the national average.

Therefore, proposals are being put forward to make the changes which, National Highways says, have been agreed with Cambridgeshire Police.

The following sections of A47 are included as part of the consultation.

  • Near Peterborough between the A15 Paston Parkway and Oversley Lodge roundabout. Proposed reduction to the existing National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph and add speed camera enforcement equipment.
  • Between Thorney New Cut roundabout and Thorney Toll. Proposed reduction to the existing National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph and speed enforcement equipment.
  • Thorney Toll village. Proposed reduction to the existing National Speed Limit of 60mph to 40mph.
  • Between Thorney Toll and Guyhirn. Proposed reduction to the existing National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph and speed camera enforcement equipment.
  • Between Guyhirn and Wisbech. Proposed reduction to the existing National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph and speed camera enforcement equipment.
  • Between Shoreboat Roundabout to Pullover roundabout. Proposed reduction to the existing National Speed Limit of 60mph to 50mph and speed camera enforcement equipment.
