The owner of a popular Fenland venue has assured customers the venue is "open for business" after it stopped hosting weekly nightclub sessions.

In October, it was reported Cassanos, a restaurant and nightclub in March, was forced to stop hosting the weekly events after 24 years because of a drop in customers.

Kevin McCourt said the decision to reduce the number of sessions from weekly to monthly was "strategic" as the business looked to "diversify" its operations.

He said the site's function room had recently undergone a renovation for "future business ventures" and that the nightclub sessions would continue on  every last Saturday of the month.

Mr McCourt told Cambs Times the decision to stop hosting weekly sessions was inspired largely by a drop in revenue, prompted largely by the cost-of-living crisis and customers purchasing cheaper alcohol elsewhere.

He said: "We thought reducing the nightclub sessions to once a month would be much more sustainable in terms of running costs, because each session costs more than £1,000.

"The decision to stop the weekly events does not mean we're phasing out the nigthclub, we're still very much open for business. We're introducing more live music and next year we're introducing additional live sessions.

"The nightclub will continute to open every saturday all through December and on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve but moving forward we need to look at ways to increase revenue."

Mr McCourt said that by reducing the number of nightclub sessions, the venue could focus on increasing its catering service for parties and other celebrations, including weddings.

It's a strategy that is already starting to yield results, with a "massive turnout" at the venue's most recent nightclub session in October.

"We've been going for 24 years now and we're not going anywhere, we're just shifting our business model to one that's more affordable that enables us to take on more opportunities."
