A care home assistant practitioner has been promoted to deputy manager.

Aria Court care home in March has announced that Ann-Marie Smith will take on the role after joining the team in August.

She was promoted after the position became vacant.

Throughout her career, Ms Smith has worked in the March and Wisbech area in home care, before moving into residential care where she trained as an assistant practitioner.

She also helped to create a rehabilitation unit at the home she worked at before joining Athena Care Homes to work at Aria Court.

Ms Smith said: "It's like a breath of fresh air.

“Everyone has been very welcoming, and there’s a lot going on here that makes it an exciting place to be.

"I’ve been given a lot of support, which is great because I ask a lot of questions.”

She is currently focused on getting to know the team, residents, and their families, as well as taking on the responsibilities of her more senior role.

Ms Smith said: “It’s important that families feel they are a part of the care process, involved in decisions, and always welcome at the home."

She likes to be out on the floor with the residents and the team, and arrives early to have a walk-around before her day starts.

Ms Smith added: “It’s also a great opportunity to say good morning to the residents and have a chat with some of the early risers."

She is a keen animal lover, with four Staffordshire Bull Terriers and a working Cocker Spaniel, who she is currently training for agility competitions.

Ms Smith said: “No two days are the same, and it is very rewarding.

"There are plenty of opportunities for training and career progression.

"I would recommend care work to anyone and advise them to give it a go."
