Good Morning Britain’s Sean Fletcher has said he has no qualms about going it alone without his breakfast show colleagues for his new TV role.

The 41-year-old has been burning the candle at both ends and putting in the occasional 16-hour working day after landing his very own quiz show, Rebound – in which players go head-to-head to answer questions before a giant “rebound bar” reaches them.

He said of working without co-hosts Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins: “It’s great to be the boss, really.

“On Good Morning Britain, I’m out on the road a lot – when you’re doing that, you don’t have a co-presenter, so you’re on your own and then you hand back to the studio. It’s great to be able to vary the pace yourself, to be in control of it.”

Sean might be a model of calm collectedness, but the same can’t always be said for the contestants on Rebound, who are pitted against each other and must answer questions correctly to bounce the bar back to their opponent. The bar – which luckily for the players, is a virtual one – gets quicker and quicker, and if they’re too slow or get the question wrong, it hits them.

“It’s a test of knowledge and nerve and it’s quite intimidating,” he said. “There are people who obviously know the answer, but just can’t get it out because they’re intimidated by this huge bar approaching them.

“What we find is that there are some very clever people who seem to be doing very well, but when the category is chosen by the person opposing them, it isn’t always a category that really works for them. It’s a great leveller.”

Sean also gave his verdict on how he would fare as a contestant.

“There are certain categories I’d do very well in, and others I’d do really badly in. I won’t tell you which I’d do really badly in!

“I did a geography degree and I know my sport, so those would work quite well for me. There are others where I’m asking the question and I think, ‘Gosh, I don’t know the answer to this’.”

Rebound begins on ITV on Monday, August 17.
